Philanthropy and partnerships

In 2025, we have responded to more than 20 humanitarian crises, supporting more than 2.5 million people. This has included the; East Africa food crisis, humanitarian situation in Gaza, flooding in Bangladesh, and the Myanmar Earthquake.

As an example, with the East Africa food crisis, an estimated 64 million people are facing food insecurity in East Africa, with women and girls, who are often last to eat, bearing the brunt of this emergency. ActionAid and our partners have supported over 255,626 people in the region including 57,818 women, and will continue to work with communities to strengthen food security and resilience to climate change.

Our Emergencies Action Fund (EAF) exists to ensure we are always ready to respond in emergencies, whenever and wherever they strike.

In 2025, we have continued to demand climate justice and underline the importance of a just, green and feminist transition. Focusing our attention on the systemic causes of climate change, we have exposed the roles of big finance and agribusiness in the climate crisis, and the women fighting for justice.

As part of our global, five-year ‘Fund our Future’ climate justice campaign, we launched a new report in July entitled, Who Pays the Price? The cost of HSBC’s climate damages. In this report, ActionAid investigated the cost on people and planet of HSBC’s financing of fossil fuels, demonstrating the impacts on communities in Bangladesh, Tanzania and Brazil.

In July, ActionAid UK put our feminist principles into action and announced our decision to cut ties with HSBC, placing people over profit and transferring the majority of our accounts to Lloyds Banking Group given their better environmental track record.

In Jordan, 48.5% of the population are women. However, only 14% of women are employed, making Jordan’s female workforce one of the lowest in the region for a non-conflict affected country, and the fourth lowest in the world.

A project, made possible by funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, is tackling these problems by creating the ‘Women Friendly Label’.

Working closely with our partners and women in the workplace, we have created a label based on women’s expectations of a safe working environment.

Workplaces that meet these expectations will be awarded with the Women Friendly Label. This allows women to identify workplaces where their rights will be upheld, encouraging women to integrate into the workforce.

The label will also incentivise businesses in Jordan to increase equal pay, provide equal opportunities and eliminate gender-based violence from the workplace.

The Women Friendly Label has been awarded to five companies, with 22 more organisations being engaged.

TRANSFORM is our fund for feminist movements fighting for justice. TRANSFORM funds trust, not projects. We provide long-term, flexible funding to women’s rights organisations doing vital work, enabling them to respond to their priorities as they evolve.

Building on decades of trusted relationships with feminist movements in more than 75 countries, TRANSFORM combines the infrastructure of a feminist fund and an INGO. These partnerships are rooted in trust, solidarity and local leadership, enabling us to reach a diverse range of women’s rights organisations across multiple contexts with confidence.
