Fundraise for the Nepal Floods Appeal
A catastrophic flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on 26 August after an intense surge of water entered the Bhotekoshi river and rapidly travelled downstream through the Trishuli river corridor.
More than 1,450 people have died and over 5,000 are reported missing. 1.6 million people have been directly or indirectly impacted and thousands have been displaced.1
Entire communities are experiencing extensive destruction, with homes, markets, bridges and roads washed away or severely damaged. Our team and partners in Nepal are planning a rapid needs assessment, prioritising the downstream area of Dhading.
As with any emergency, women and girls are often disproportionately affected, as well as the first to respond. ActionAid’s response will put women and girls at the centre, recognising the increased needs for protection, loss of livelihoods and increased care responsibilities.
Search and rescue operations are underway, and the scale of the disaster is only just unfolding.
Emergency shelter, food, safe water, along with medical and protection services, especially for women and children, are all urgently needed.

More floods in Nepal in October
Nepal faced further heavy rains on October 11 worsening the flooding in Nepal, washing away additional roads, affecting new areas and making it increasingly difficult to reach communities in need.
Reports of missing people are rising, with casualty figures yet to be confirmed.
Although schools have reopened, many children are unable to return, with some experiencing trauma and others helping their families find work and financial support. Girls are particularly affected, taking on additional caring responsibilities.
In response to requests from local authorities, ActionAid is expanding its emergency response to a newly affected area, with cash distributions continuing and food distributions beginning to support families facing growing hardship.
We are also documenting its impacts to inform longer-term climate policy and strengthen calls for the climate finance needed to protect communities on the front line of the climate crisis.

Where your money goes
90% of your donation will go directly to this appeal.
10% of your donation will be retained for ActionAid’s Emergency Action Fund which will only be used for ensuring we are prepared and able to respond quickly and more effectively to future emergencies and crises.
If the total amount raised for this appeal exceeds the funds needed for the response, ActionAid will transfer the remaining balance to the Emergency Action Fund. All Gift Aid claimed on donations will fund ActionAid’s work across the world, wherever the need is greatest.
